CNC+CMM retrofit

The first laser scanner interfaced on CMM, in the early 1990′s was a Kreon Scanner. Since then, KREON became a specialist of machine retrofits and integrations. In the past, Kreon developed a trajectory editor, which permitted to directly operate the machine in scanning mode. Since then, Kreon opted for partnerships with software editors and particularly measuring software.

The most developed integration of the KREON scanners is probably with the metrologic software METROLOG. The Kreon scanners are transparently managed into measurement programs, and the user can then take advantage of the scanner/probe combination in automatic mode.

The new scanners KREON ZEPHYR II and AQUILON are even fully compatible with the RENISHAW standard, which enables to use the multiwire interface. The scanner can so be used without external cable like a standard probe. Those latest-generation scanners work with standard µD Renishaw cables, autochange racks and IS1-2 switches.

In practice, a complete measurement program may use a scanning probe SP25 in automatic mode and a Zephyr II scanner, without any human intervention. The calibrations of the different positions of the scanner on the indexed head can also be automatically done similarly to what is done for probes. The complementarity between a probe and a scanner allows to obtain results from fast and optimized local measurement (extraction of geometric entities) or global ones (gaps mapping).
