At the University of Limoges, the students in Digital Modelmaking and Rapid Prototyping use Kreon’s non-contact measurement technology to develop dune buggies for the legendary
Dakar Rally (or simply "The Dakar"; formerly known as "The Paris Dakar Rally"), an annual off-road race from Europe to Africa
.
The students first created the first digital model with Catia software for assessment of the prototype’s style. After validation, the windshield and lights where digitized with a Kreon scanner associated to a portable measuring arm. This combination enabled finalizing the digital model of the vehicle’s body. The models of the different parts were machined in polyurethane foam with a rapid prototyping station.
The Kreon Zephyr scanner was also used to design the internal panels of the doors using the body’s real geometry.
